Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,
I pray this message finds you surrounded by Easter hope and the promise of new life waiting beyond our most profound sorrows and difficult trials.
We continue to grieve and lament the tragic and terrifying display of racist hatred in Buffalo, New York, and the mass shooting at a southern California church. These crimes remind us of the profound threats that white supremacy, rising hate crimes, and widespread gun violence pose to life in America, and especially to communities of color. In a statement released last week, we urge white Christians and all Americans of goodwill to repent of anti-Black racism and the nation’s enduring system of racial apartheid. We recommit to doing all that we can to help bring an end to racism, xenophobia, enmity, prejudice, and oppression of all kinds. May Christ, who is gentle and humble in heart, be our guide.

I have heard from many of you in recent weeks who appreciated the perspective we shared on the leaked Dobbs vs. Jackson Supreme Court opinion. It’s clear that many Christians across the country are looking for a way to rise above the heated divide, to be truly pro-woman and pro-child; to honor the sacredness of human life while considering carefully what authority the government should wield over our families. We were gratified that our friends at Red Letter Christians and the ERA Coalition re-shared our statement, which you can read here.

Perhaps you are concerned for life in the womb but also troubled by that state of our nation, where child bearing and rearing feels impossible for so many. Or mindful that our policies have turned a blind eye to the injustices of intimate partner violence and poverty, which together give rise to the majority of abortions each year. Perhaps you’re worried about the life and health of women and increasingly extreme calls to prosecute abortion as homicide.

| We’re right there with you, and we’ll be bringing you more expert insight on the Dobbs decision as the official opinion is published in the next month or so.
In the meantime, listen in to my recent #KitchenTableConvo with Lisa Sharon Harper. We talk about how Justice Samuel Alito, author of the draft opinion, invokes a 19th century view of “liberty” - and what implications this could have for women’s rights and LGBTQ+ people’s rights, far beyond the context of pregnancy and reproduction.
