Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,
Whether you joined us for an event, responded to a call to activism, made a gift to our campaign, or prayed for this ministry, we thank you for moving our nation closer to Beloved Community this year. As we near the close of 2021, I’m writing to share a few highlights of the work your support made possible this year.
“The Heart of Human Rights” Educational Series, with Leading Experts on Urgent Justice Issues This year we launched our new, web-based educational series, bringing together faith leaders and rights experts to explore urgent justice issues of our today. “The Heart of Human Rights” drew hundreds of participants nationwide for events on voting rights, policing reform, and constitutional equality. We were thrilled to welcome colleagues from Human Rights Watch, the Brennan Center for Justice, Faith in Action, and more for these special conversations.
Thank you to all of you who joined us and took action in response! Many of you told us of your plans to contact your Members of Congress, educate and mobilize within your church, and learn more about your community’s experiences of injustice. In the coming year, you’ll see events on the death penalty, solitary confinement, and violence against women, with more specific calls to action. Keep an eye on our events page for details.
Voicing Christian Commitment to Gender Equality on Capitol Hill This year saw Justice Revival leading the way among faith advocates fighting for gender equality in our constitution. Using our expertise at the crossroads of human rights and Christian ethics, we published an expert Policy Brief on the Equal Rights Amendment, making the Christian and legal case for this watershed reform. It was an honor to be endorsed by colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
We convened the #Faith4ERA campaign, recruited nearly a dozen organizational partners, garnered over 540 faith leader signatures, and lobbied key senators to finalize the 28th Amendment.
While religious opponents are often blamed for tanking the cause of equality five decades ago, we’re working hard to write a new history, in which Christ followers declare that our daughters, sisters, mothers, and LGBTQ+ siblings all count equally.
In honor of Human Rights Day and Advent, this community joined together to listen, pray, sing, and worship in the spirit of Beloved Community. If you are yearning for spiritual renewal this season, watch “Reflect, Revive, Rejoice!” here and pass on the inspiration. Don’t miss Lisa Sharon Harper’s resounding keynote address!
