Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,
Thank you to those of you who joined us for last week’s special event, “Confronting Violence Against Women as People of Faith,” which you can view here. In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we took a close and careful look at gender-based violence–the most widespread human rights violation in the world–and considered how communities of faith can respond to promote justice and healing. Our phenomenal panel of expert guest speakers shed light on theological, legal, policy, and socio-cultural aspects of domestic and sexual abuse.

I’m especially grateful to those who courageously spoke about their own experience as survivors, in the social media conversation. Several years ago, I wrote about how I longed to hear the Church lament the widespread rape of American college students, the daily murder of women by their partners, the workplace sexual assault that harms one in three women. As followers of the Prince of Peace, we can all preach against gendered violence and abuse, which has been too long hidden or tolerated. FaithTrust Institute and the Every Woman Treaty are two excellent starting points for learning more and taking action.

Online Human Rights Workshop with Yale Divinity School |
|
|
I had the opportunity to return in person to my alma mater, Yale Divinity School, for Convocation and Reunion earlier this month. The Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II gave a powerful, spirit-filled sermon about the need for a Third Reconstruction in America, reminding us how God is always present in the midst of movements toward justice and liberation.
I sat down for a public conversation with my former professor, Dr. Jennifer Herdt, to discuss how fellow Yale graduates and I came together in 2017 to found Justice Revival. You can view the video here and learn more about the origins of our shared vision to mobilize U.S. Christians to defend human rights.
Next February, I’ll be teaching a three-week, online workshop, “Human Rights & Christian Faith in the U.S. Context," in collaboration with the YDS Center for Continuing Education. This event is perfect for current and future pastors and will be open to the public. You’ll be the first to know when registration opens!

Our Growing Board Casts Vision for 2023 |
Last month our growing Board of Directors held our first in-person retreat since before the pandemic began. We considered Justice Revival’s progress so far and began to envision what lies ahead in 2023 and beyond. Gathering with the board’s newest members, Lisa Sharon Harper and Lori Adams-Brown, was a treat. I’m deeply grateful for the leadership and dedication that all of our directors bring to Justice Revival. |

|
I am also grateful for the contributions you make to the Christian movement for human rights in this country. Thank you for learning, growing, praying, and advocating with us. May we strengthen one another through this journey of faith. In hope, |
