Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,
I pray that summer was a time of rest and rejuvenation, joy and fellowship for you. In August, I was blessed to be part of the Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) conference in Atlanta. Participants from around the world—who are working towards a Church where women’s leadership is valued and embraced—broke bread, learned, prayed, and worshiped together. It was a Spirit-filled time of encouragement and uplift. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” - Galatians 3:28
I led a workshop, “Equal Before God, Equal Before the State,” where several dozen Christian scholars, pastors, seminary students, and non-profit leaders joined me to learn how their values of equality in the Church and in ministry speak to the urgent struggle to protect women’s rights under the U.S. Constitution. These friends were eager to discover what the Equal Rights Amendment signifies and to understand how they could join the historic #Faith4ERA campaign. You can watch the full workshop here.

CBE’s opening keynote speaker, Rev. David Hart of Madison, Wisconsin delivered a sermon I had been yearning to hear. He called men to get out of the “oppressor mindset” and set aside the “patriarchal clichés” of traditional gender roles. His compassion towards the plight of women and girls and his commitment to center their experiences is a great gift. How we need more male pastors to follow his example!

Join us next month, on October 27, 2022 at 12pm Eastern, as we convene a panel of expert guest speakers to address one of the most harmful and unjust effects of gender inequality: violence against women. In the U.S., intimate partner violence claims four lives each day but was too long hidden or tolerated by the Church and disregarded by the human rights community. In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’ll be discussing how people of faith can call for laws, policies, and systems that stop the violence, support survivors, and demand accountability and change. You won’t want to miss it.
Dr. Indira M. Henard, DSW MSW, Executive Director of the DC Rape Crisis Center, has already been confirmed as a guest speaker. This will be the sixth and last forum in our series, “The Heart of Human Rights: Faith-Fueled Advocacy on Issues of Our Day.”
