Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,

I hope you had a blessed holiday season and are entering 2023 with fresh hope and energy for what lies ahead.

Here at Justice Revival, we’re starting the New Year by reflecting on where our nation stands now and envisioning a meaningful path forward.

Recalling the prophetic leadership of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspires us to press on, yet with the recent anniversary of the violent January 6th insurrection in our nation’s capital, we’re reminded of the need to strengthen and safeguard our democracy.

Religious nationalism corrupts our civic ideals and mars the sanctity of our faith by conflating religious and political identities. Although some today are brazenly claiming the banner of Christian nationalism, Justice Revival has long advocated resistance to this dangerous ideology.

Join us and many others in signing on and sharing the Christians Against Christian Nationalism campaign.

The central lie of Christian nationalism is that members of one religion are more worthy of the privileges of citizenship and belonging than others, and it often joins forces with white supremacy.

But elevating some people and excluding the rest denies the inclusive fellowship that Jesus modeled and taught.

During a month when we celebrate the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., may we reaffirm the vital importance of honoring each other as siblings, with respect for each person’s dignity and rights.

Reclaiming a Faithful Vision of Human Rights, an online workshop with Allyson McKinney Timm.

Starting February 1!

If you’re wondering what the ethical opposite of Christian nationalism and systemic racism are, consider exploring this compelling alternative: Christian fidelity to universal human rights.

Join me next month, Feb. 1st, 8th, and 15th, at Yale Divinity School for a free, online workshop to learn more about the theological basis for human rights and how this framework can inform your work for justice in the world.

Amidst rising hate crimes, systemic racism, and renewed conflict over America’s treatment of immigrants, you’ll gain new tools to advocate powerfully with compassion.
