Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,
During this difficult season, we’re praying for all who are suffering due to COVID-19 and its far-reaching consequences—for those who are grieving, sick, or afraid, for all who’ve lost jobs and struggle to put food on the table. We’re learning more each day about the frailties of our social safety net and the inequities of our health and justice systems, as facts about the racial disparities of the COVID-19 mortality rate and the rising risks to abuse victims stuck at home shock the conscience.
Amidst the steady stream of daunting news, however, we hold fast to the hope of Easter, remembering it’s not just a holy day or week but a sacred season, and that resurrection is not only a miracle we celebrate but a promise in which we can trust. There are no easy answers to the challenges of this time, yet we hope with confidence that the Easter story of life and triumph beyond tragic loss can reinvigorate our spirits and empower us to continue doing all we can to overcome evil with good.
Advocacy for the Most Vulnerable
This month Justice Revival endorsed calls to help the most vulnerable in national and global responses to the pandemic. With the U.S. Human Rights Network, we urged the U.N. Human Rights Council to consider people in poverty and homeless individuals as it addresses human rights during COVID-19. We joined interfaith partners in urging Congress to consider those on the margins in its fourth coronavirus-related relief package. Our demands included: increased food, housing, and unemployment assistance for those in need; increased access to COVID-19 testing and treatment; provisions for absentee voting; and release of elderly and medically vulnerable prisoners as well as immigrant detainees in the interest of public health.
A Prophetic “Electionary” Gathering
Last week I joined a resounding chorus of prophetic voices calling for greater faith, hope, and love in our public life this election year. As a guest speaker at Vote Common Good’s weekly “Electionary” series, I shared a message on our duties as neighbors to one another during the coronavirus crisis and beyond, and why this means upholding one another’s human rights. You can watch the video here, and join the conversation at VCG’s Electionary via Facebook each Tuesday until November.
May 14th Human Right to Health Webinar
The global coronavirus pandemic has heightened the urgency of critical, long-running debates about health care access and affordability in the United States. I hope you’ll join us Thursday, May 14th at 12:30 pm Eastern as Justice Revival and Faith in Healthcare bring you a special webinar on the human right to health in the age of COVID-19. We’ll consider what Christianity and other faith traditions have to teach us about healthcare, and what human rights requires of a nation like ours. You’ll have a chance to voice your input and questions. Please register early, as space is limited.
2019 Annual Report
Justice Revival’s 2019 Annual Report is here, showcasing the strides this ministry made last year thanks to the faithful support of good friends like you. It includes not only an in-depth year-in-review, but insight on our theory of change, advocacy strategy, and growing community of volunteers, partners, and donors. We hope you’ll be encouraged by all we’ve achieved together so far.
If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that your efforts and mine are essential in the sacred struggle to build a world where our families and communities are safe, where human needs are met in abundance, and where each soul is cherished as a beloved child of the living God.
Throughout this sacred season of Easter, I pray the hope of resurrection and the promise of new life bring light to your life and your path forward. In faith, hope & love, Allyson McKinney Timm Founder & Executive Director p.s. Would you like to receive future updates? Subscribe on our home page. A Christian Voice for Human Rights
