Dear *{{Informal Name}}*,

How can we make true justice and full equality less of a dream and more of a lived reality?

That’s the question I’ve been reflecting on lately. It is a life-long question to hold, but I find glimpses of the answer in the exemplary lives of activists and faith leaders like Pauli Murray, Bayard Rustin, and countless others.

These remarkable figures demonstrate what it can mean to embody God’s love in unique ways and particular contexts, to insist that change is both necessary and possible.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month this March, I hope you will join me in considering how you might be called and equipped to join in pursuing greater equality—especially for women, girls, and LGBTQ+ Americans—in your circles of influence.

Advocate for the ERA!

One tangible way you can make a difference this month is by advocating for the ERA—an essential human rights reform that would enshrine gender equality in the U.S. Constitution.

Your voice is urgently needed right now, as a Senate vote is expected in the coming weeks.

Email Congress

This expected vote is coming on the heels of a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the ERA—the first in nearly four decades. The #Faith4ERA campaign submitted testimony to the committee, voicing strong interfaith support for the ERA and backing SJ Res 4, a bill which recognizes the ERA as a valid, ratified amendment.

During the Hearing, Sens. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) spoke of how the ERA will affirm the American value of equality under the law and empower women by securing equal pay and ending gender-based violence. Illinois Lt. Gov.  Juliana Stratton offered her resounding support as well. View the full hearing here and more highlights in our press release.

New Article! Called to be Resurrectionists

Some opponents of the ERA argue that the amendment is dead and gone due to an arbitrary, advisory ratification timeframe that Congress inserted in its preamble. They accuse advocates like us of being “resurrectionists” for believing—along with legal experts—that the ERA is still viable and valid today.

Although this is meant as a slam, I wear the label of “resurrectionist” with pride. As I write in Sojourners:

“Resurrection — the inbreaking of God’s kingdom and good news for those on the margins — is reality. It is never too late for the Spirit to upend our expectations and show us that what looked like death was just a transition. If Christians believe in the resurrection, why would we not believe in the triumph of every righteous cause?”

As we prepare for Easter, I hope you'll read the article and consider how resurrection hope informs your work for justice.

Podcast Interview! Achieving Equality & The #Faith4ERA Campaign

In honor of International Women’s Day last week, I joined Justice Revival Board Member Lori Adams Brown on her podcast A World of Difference for a timely conversation about gender equality and our interfaith campaign for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

Tune in to learn how the U.S. Constitution is failing to protect women's rights, how both theology and the law can inform our understanding of human rights, and why the ERA will help, not hurt, women and girls.

When women and girls thrive, we all benefit. Thank you for believing that a more just and equal future is possible, and for partnering with us to make it a reality.
